Mathematical integral Gravatar image: What’s the rating?

Monday, June 9th, 2008 by Agro Rachmatullah

I just added an image to Gravatar so that it will appear as my avatar when I comment on blogs. It’s just exactly my old WordPress.com avatar, the mathematical integral image. When adding, I met this amusing screen midway:

GNU date tutorial (Linux command line series)

Monday, June 9th, 2008 by Agro Rachmatullah

date is part of the GNU Coreutils or core system utilities on a GNU/Linux system. It is a command line program that tells you the current date.

Basic usage

Just type the command date on the terminal:

[agronesia]$ date
Sun Jun 8 02:11:51 PDT 2008

It will display the date according to the system’s time zone, in that case PDT.

Language ramblings and stuffs

Cloth with the Thai alphabet

This shirt contains the Thailand alphabet. I lived in Thailand for around 4 years, but couldn’t read anything at all. What’s interesting is that the Wikipedia articled states that space is generally not used in writing because most words are monosyllabic. Never realized that also.

I sadly couldn’t speak Thai. Well, I probably can speak the two most important expressions for a man: “khong nam ti nai?” (where is the toilet?) and “pom rak kun” (I (male) love you). I’m of course using the never-before-heard Agronesian romanization.

A Wordpress address using a non-pretty URL

Here are some stuffs that I did for my WordPress installations. The plain installation, left alone, is just plainly not good enough :)… I use version 2.5.1 btw.

(almost daily) soybean milk

Soybean milk sold inside plastics

Probably around once every two or three days, a house-to-house soymilk seller comes to my house. He will park his bicycle outside and greet with the Islamic greeting, using a semi-loud voice, “Assalamu’alaikum!”, to inform the people inside the house that he has arrived.

The milks are sold in small transparent plastics with vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate as its flavors. The one pictured above is the chocolate flavor.

Candle and crepe in an electricity outage at the night, Sokaraja Tengah

In this hard times I call “the Indonesian power crisis of 2008″, PLN once again shut the electricity off. But this day, they did it starting from around 17:20! It’s now 18:12, and Sokaraja Tengah is still pitch black. Luckily my laptop has batteries and my modem can live off the UPS.

How much does an egg weigh?

Broken egg illustration

Some days ago I went to Indorizky to buy some eggs. My mom said she needed 0.5 kg.

The egg place was easy enough find. Once I got there, I only needed to take the provided semi-transparent plastic bags and fill it with the eggs.

Notepad++ HTML editing tag insertion (surround) plugin

Notepad++ mascot

I use Notepad++ for my text editing need. To write my blog entries, I’m even handcoding my HTML using it!

It has neat features that makes it superior to Notepad such as a tabbed interface, internationalization (Unicode support and UI translations), and lots of text manipulation tools (HTML escaping, to name one).

One essential feature I miss when editing HTML using it is the tag wrapping functionality. That’s what the buttons in Wordpress’ HTML mode do:

Inserting a tag using Wordpress\' HTML editing mode

After asking around in the forum, I finally found the plugin I needed for Notepad++, WebEdit.

Buying drawing utensils, because the hardware matters!

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008 by Agro Rachmatullah

Drawing utensils I just bought: HB pencil, marker, eraser, and sharpener

I just bought some drawing equipment from the nearby Sokaraja Indomaret. It’s an HB Staedtler pencil, a cheap black Snowman marker, an eraser, and a sharpener! That’s because I draw illustrations for my Japanese language blog Yumeko and my pen just isn’t enough!

Pen and paper notes

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 by Agro Rachmatullah

An innovation has just been made!

Well, using those yellow-brown tapes, I attached a piece of A4 paper to the wall on the left of my chair. Now, when I have a blog post idea, I can just pick the pen on the desk and jolt it down there! After an idea have been materialized on the net, I can just easily strike it out.

Right now, there are 5 entries on that note :). As expected, pen and paper is still the best!
