Out of electricity

Today, around 9 AM, when I was translating a chapter of Tae Kim’s tutorial, the lights went off. Well, as expected of PLN, the national monopolizing body of electricity in Indonesia.

I have a UPS and a laptop, so the first thing I did was to disconnect my laptop from the UPS. My laptop could run on its own battery and the cable modem did fine thanks to the UPS. With that critical condition, I could finish the writing and post it without PLN’s mercy. However the power still hadn’t come back when my UPS reached its limit, so I had no choice but to turn off all remaining electronic devices.

I called 108 to ask PLN’s phone number. They gave me (0281) 634220 for Purwokerto’s complain line. The woman said that there were trouble and it should be back up at 4 PM. Mattaku

Well, without electricity for that long, I figured I would… Reflect my past, where I am now, and my future plans? No. I picked CLQ which I have abandoned for quite long but sadly ended with me getting asleep.

At four, everything was still dark so my little brother phoned PLN. They said we should wait until 5. Well, it was up before five so I’m now online again.

Dear PLN, please keep your downtime to minimum…

And I can’t help but wonder, do other countries also monopolize their electricity distribution sector?
